Character history- Jayne's story seems to be one full of misbehaving and self satisfaction, though by far the greatest things he's ever done were while in the employ of Malcolm Reynolds. He first met Mal and his second in command Zoe when he was hired to track them down for someone that was not the least bit pleased with the former war hero.
Mal and Zoe were impressed with how swiftly they'd been caught and inquired who had done the actual tracking. When Jayne admitted to it Mal cleverly offered him a job. When the promise of a larger cut of the take was put out there Jayne was intrigued...and the deal was sealed with promise of his own bunk. Jayne turned on his former cohorts and joined the crew of "Serenity".
Jayne, while abrasive and less then easy to get along with sometimes found his place with the crew, growing fond of the engineer Kaylee...though he would never admit to it. When running low on funds the ship took on some passengers and while Jayne wasn't particularly pleased he went along with it. He was however forced to leave the dinner table when he made some horribly off color jokes at Kaylee's expense in front of the guests.
Things got bad fast however when one of the new passengers turned out to be a undercover agent for the Alliance. He was there to capture the wanted fugitive Simon Tam who had also snuck onto Serenity as a passenger.
When the Alliance spy panic'd however he shot Kaylee and earned a near death via Jayne, averted only by the Shepherd Book (Another passenger that had been picked up) The spy was tied up and interragated by Jayne who was doing his best to scare the piss out of him in the process. The spy tried to bribe Jayne to turn on Mal, but the money wasn't good enough. This adventure in the long run resulted in just enough cash to keep flying...the spy being shot, and The Shepherd, the fugitive doctor and his mysterious sister joining the crew for the time being. Jayne wasn't too keen on this but kept his mouth shut.
Jayne's past would catch up with him soon enough when they took up some business on a planet that Jayne once caused some trouble on. He had some years ago pulled a second story job on the magistrate of the planet with a partner. During their escape in a air cruiser they were shot and almost brought down. After tearing the ship apart as much as they could Jayne shoved his partner out to protect the loot and himself. When even that wasn't enough Jayne had to toss the loot and it ended raining down directly on a village of indentured workers who were basically slaves to the magistrate. Because of this Jayne had become sort of a Robinhood like hero to the people of that village and a loathed enemy of the Magistrate. Believing in Jayne gave the workers a backbone and they stood up for their rights more then before.
Jayne wanted nothing more then to lay low but he was recognized and celebrated as a hero by the workers. Mal thought to use this as a distraction so they could collect the cargo they were supposed to sneak through the village and onto their ship. Jayne actually felt somewhat unsure about using his fame to trick people but he went along with it. Unfortunately the Magistrate and the foremen learned of Jaynes return and set free his homicidal and near mad former partner.
His former partner confronted Jayne in the middle of the town that was celebrating him, and after revealing the truth of what had happened tried to shoot Jayne. A young worker boy who idolized Jayne took the shot for him sending Jayne into a near bloodrage. He beat his former partner to death and the boy died in his arms not long after.
Crushed and confused by the guilt he felt Jayne roared at the workers about how wrong they were to worship him, and destroyed the statue of him they had erected...but if that had any effect would never be known.
The entire adventure left a bad taste in Jayne's mouth and he prefers not to think about it much...it cut him deeper then he's willing to admit.
Jayne and Simon had never really gotten along at this point, Jayne had alot of ire for the pompous pretty boy who seemed to think himself better then the mercenary. Even worse was Jayne knew how much Kaylee liked him and that didn't sit right either. At some point he incurred the sudden and unpredictable wrath of Simon's sister who slashed him across the chest with a hunting knife. This settled matters for Jayne and when Simon thought up a heist that would both get the crew some cash and help him learn about what was wrong with his sister, Jayne put together some plans of his own. He tipped off the feds and tried to turn in Simon and his sister...only to get pinched himself. He then set about helping them, and himself escape the double cross and return to the ship. He thought he'd gotten off free. He was wrong. Mal figured out what had happened, knocked him out and stuck him in the loading dock, almost flushing him out the airlock for the betrayal. It was only when Jayne begged Mal not to tell the others about his betrayal that Mal let him live, but he was in the doghouse that was for sure.
It seemed Simon wasn't tricked either (Or at least for long) as when an accident rendered Jayne unconcious he drugged Jayne to the point he couldn't move and threatened him...followed by telling him that for all the power he held over Jayne he would never hurt him. River on the other hand told him she could kill him with her mind. Jayne at that point decided just to let the subject die. He may not like Simon or River but they were part of the crew.
By far the greatest thing Jayne has ever done for mankind was helping Mal and the crew expose one of the Alliance's dirty little secrets regarding a planet called Miranda. They had pumped a chemical into the air to try and make the population me compliant. It worked too well and most just let themselves die, while the rest became crazed monsters known as Revers, feared homicidal creatures known throughout the galaxy for the horrors they commit. Jayne agreed to help expose this revelation and fought alongside the crew as Mal fought his way to a transmitter that allowed him to override transmission signals throughout a large portion of the civilized worlds and transmit a video explaining the truth. Though he may have complained most of the way, and at one point even tried to fire River off into space in one of the ships shuttled (Well she did kick his ass earlier) he did the right thing in the long run.
Character personality-Rude, brash, abrasive, and those are his good qualities. Jayne is a very practical no nonsense guy who tends to work twords simple goals. Money, food, alcohol and women. He loves a good fight and tends to enjoy himself most when he's working.
He is quick to temper and it takes a long time for him to drop a grudge. His loyalty however can be bought for the right price. Money tends to make him stupid and he forgets where his loyalty SHOULD lie along with just how much he can get away with.
He is also surprisingly cunning at times. While not smart by ANY stretch of the imagination he has a tactical mind when it comes to fighting, tracking and combat in general. While he doesn't like to bother with politics or subterfuge if he doesn't have to he can usually easily think up a quick and effective solution, even if it usually has all the subtly of a sledgehammer.
Finally deep down...he has some soft spots. He loves his mother and sends her and the family money dutifully, taking great pride in anything she might send him in return (Like his very cunning hat) He also has some protective tendencies over the crew (When he's not in a bad mood) and has show it particularly in regards to Kaylee, and later to River (OK only a few times and it still didn't stop him from trying to get rid of her)
Digimon personality- Agumon is a good person really, he's just fallen in with a bad crowd, namely Jayne. He doesn't like killing and if possible he'd rather avoid fighting, but he's not afraid to mix it up if he gets in a scrape.
Before Jayne arrived Agumon was a delivery mon traveling between the cities with more western themes and delivering packages, goods and services from the back of his trusty pickup truck. Now that he's fallen in with Jayne though his jobs may become a bit more dangerous and less legal. For the right price he's willing to bend his morals.
Character abilities- [List your character's abilities here. Keep in mind that strength wise, and for the sake of balance, a character's abilities have to be scaled down to the point they are only as strong as an Adult level digimon, so you may have to modify them for the purposes of this role-play.]
Sample RP-The bar was a seedy hot sort of place, the taste of dust thick in the air and the scent of sweat impossible to ignore.
Jayne could feel the sticky uncomfortable feeling on his face from drool and he forced himself to sit up looking around as blurry eyes adjusted.
"The hell?"
This wasn't serenity...this wasn't any bar he was familiar with. Where the hell was he?
Looking around slowly and taking in his surroundings he reached up to wipe drool from his face. He wasn't even hung over so it wasn't a bender that had brought him here.
And only then did he start to realize the patrons of the bar weren't human.
Monsters...furry monsters, scaly monsters, feathered monsters all trotting around, drinking, playing cards...like it was totally normal.
A hush fell over the bar as one entered though...he was a great big half horse half human lookin' freak with a helmet and a gun wielded into his arm.
On one side of him he had a bird thing, and the other a rabbit thing. All three of them were glaring at Jayne.
"You're in our spot human."
Jayne knew the tone the middle one was using. That was the "I feel like kicking someone's ass and nothing you say or do will stop me from doing it to you." tone. He'd used it many times himself.
Jayne held his hands up like he intended on going out easy...but he was confused, lost, and now pissed off. Before they could blink he'd grabbed the stools on either side of him and flung them hard catching the Gazimon and Hawkmon sending them to the ground before whipping out his knife and rushing the Centaur.
Sample journal entry-Hrm...lizard, giant birds, not I got some kinda star shaped thing tellin' me he's the sheriff and I'm a bad bad man for defending myself.
This is the weirdest gorram dream I've ever had...hurts like hell too.
This things some kinda communicator? Well communicate to me what the hell I do next. I've been in this ruttin cell for two hours and still havn't woken up.
And if this is some kinda joke I'm gonna show you just how bad a man I am.
